Hey everyone my name is Anthony Sobick and this is my first semester at Eastern Michigan University. I transferred from Wayne County Community College after spending two years there. This is my first blog that i have ever written before and i am looking forward to learning the whole process of how a blog works, and be able to interact with my classmates, and also learn some new information about computers outside of the classroom. It is crucial for a new student to hit the ground running after transferring from a community college to a university, it may be difficult at first, but it can only get easier. I grew up in Canton, Mi and attended Canton High School, where i graduated in 2005.
While the first class session of the semester after all the introductions were done, we got to learning about the history of the computer and we got to learn about how the computer came to be, every small advance in technology leading into the modern day computer. It amazed me to see how everything came together to form the computer that i am using at this moment.
We learned about a man name Charles Babbage, after hearing about the remarkable advances that he made on helping the computer to become what it is today, made me want to learn more information about the man behind the invention. In class we learned he was a Lucasian professor of mathematics at Cambridge, and he designed an incredibly complex mechanical calculator(1822), and also married punch cards to the mechanical calculator(1840s).
according to wikipedia. "Charles Babbage was born on December 26, 1791 in London England and died at the age of 79 years old. His Alma mater was Peter house, Cambridge. He was known for Mathematics and computing. Charles Babbage was an English mathematician, philosopher, inventor, and mechanical engineer who originated the concept of programmable computer parts of his uncompleted mechanisms are on display in the London science museum. In 1991, a perfectly functioning difference engine was constructed from Babbage's original plans. Built to tolerances achievable in the 19Th century, the success of the finished engine indicated that Babbage's machine would have worked. nine years later, the science museum completed the printer Babbage had designed, for the difference engine, an astonishingly complex device for the 19Th century. Considered a "father of the computer" Babbage is credited with inventing the first mechanical computer that eventually led to more complex designs"(www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Babbage)

Hi Anthony,
ReplyDeleteI'm Kelcie. I'm also new to blogging, so maybe we can help each other. So, Charles Babbage was the one person that really stuck out to me in class too. He was so intelligent and the thought that computers could have possibly been created a long during his time is fascinating. I didn't know he was considered a "father of the computer", but it's very fitting. Thanks for the knowledge.
Hey Anthony,
ReplyDeleteI'm Henry, Charles Babbage was a great person to talk about him being the father of computer I didn't know he did so much so thanks for the information
Hey, I'm Ashley, and I transfered from a community college as well I know that this is a big step this semester I'm already sinking but like you said it can only get easier.
ReplyDeleteAnd Charles Babbage was a good choice topic.
Hey Anthony, I also found Charles Babbage to be quite interesting. Just knowing that this one man thought of something so complex for his time is amazing. Also, finding out that his design was built 150 years later and worked is just astonishing. He truly is the "Father of the Computer."
ReplyDeleteHi Anthony, as you said, Charles Babbage was a great person. I got little knowledge about computer, but I am so surprise the history of computer and its changes.I am so curious that how people just use tiny electronic accessory to produce a computer and how their minds came from.
