First Blog

Hello everyone. My name is Jeff Geer. I am a Sports Management major in a sea of Business majors. This is my second semester at EMU but my fifth year in college. Out of high school I attended Lawrence Technological University for Computer Science. I transferred a year later to WCC and achieved an Associate's Degree in Secondary Education. After that, I came to EMU and planned on getting a Bachelor's in Secondary Education with a focus on history. I soon realized teaching was not my thing. This caused me to reevaluate my life and find what I truly wanted to do. I wanted to go into Business/Management and I am an avid sports fan and have played sports almost all my life. Sports Management was the obvious choice.

For almost three years I studied computers. I have studied the history of computers in multiple classes but this is the first class I have taken that showed history prior to 1940. I was pretty intrigued to learn about how Charles Babbage came up with the idea of a computer almost 100 years before computers were being developed. Imagine what kind of technology we could have today if he only had his vision come to realization. Just knowing how technology has evolved over the past thirty years is pretty astonishing. All the way from the first IBM personal computer to the new touchscreen computers, I cannot wait to see what another twenty years will bring.

It is amazing how dependent our society, especially my generation, has become on technology. You cannot go anywhere these days and not see someone on a laptop computer or a smart phone. I have a BlackBerry, myself, and it is the best phone I have ever had. Ever since I got my phone I have noticed I spend much less time on my laptop. The only time I am on my laptop is when I am doing school work.

Anyhow, I am very excited for the rest of this semester and reading many of my classmates blogs!
