1st blog

Alright, so as I cram this in before midnight, I'll follow the lead of the previous entries. My name is Ryan Shell, and I'm a sophomore with my major being business management. This is my second go around at EMU attempting a degree.

When we learned about Charles Babbage and his complex mechanical calculator that he thought up and tried to put into practice, I was amazed. I couldn't imagine working on such a great undertaking for most of my life, and never being able to see it's completion/creation. It's like trying to solve a puzzle your whole life, and realize that you're missing a piece or two right at the very end. But you wonder if just coming up with the grand idea and logic was enough to provide him satisfaction and enjoyment that his work and grand ideas would be carried on.

Well I hope that this post has evoked some sort of response, thought, or some reaction, and helps fulfill the first blog requirement as well.

Ryan

  1. This is also my 2nd go-round @ EMU. I quit to start a career 28 years ago. My first calculator was the Texas Instruments Business Analyst. It is amazing to me how a person can invent something as complex as a calculator, or the cellphone. Inventors are truly the unsung heroes of our lifetime. And to think, that most of them were taken advantage of, is amazing to me.
