Hi, my name is Travis Bey and this my first blog as well. I am a senior and my major is construction management. This class (IS 215) is a required class for my minor, which is general business. I received an Associates Degree in Architectural Construction for Henry Ford Community College. I have come to realize that since my area of study is in construction, that after graduation, I may have to leave the state due to the construction slump brought on by downward spiral of our economy.
In the first class it was surprising to learn that we would not be sitting in front of a computer. I had no idea what this class was going to be, but I had invisioned learning how to use different kinds of software programs. But its okay cause the class is still interesting (at least what we have covered so far) and its something that I had never thought of; the history of the computer. It was interesting to learn who Charles Babbage was. I had heard the last name before but never knew what it was, let alone who it was. There used to be a store in Fairlane shopping mall called Babbages. This was a store that sold computers, computer games, and computer accessories. I spent a lot of time and money in this store but never took the time to see what the name of the store meant.
This class also makes me think of my first computer, a Commodore 64. At the time, it was cutting edge technology. Comparing it to the laptop that I have now, it was a giant calculator. My commodore used a big square disk called a 5 1/4 inch diskette. You had to type in demands to get the computer to work. It did nothing on its own. It came with a 13 inch green screen monitor. Now that I think back on it, it was horrible. Computers have evolved so much so fast its amazing. I cant wait to what they will be like 30 years from now.
