Hello all,
My name is Kelcie Foster. This is my first time ever writing a blog. Honestly, before now I never had an interest in blogging but I am always open to a new experience. To start off I would like to tell about myself, just so you know a little bit about the person who wrote what you're reading. :-) So, I am a sophomore here at Eastern majoring in Business. I have not yet decided what area of business, but I am more so leaning towards Business Entrepreneurship. About 15 years ago, my parents started a real estate/property management company named Kelcie Enterprises. I feel it was predetermined that this would be my career field. At first I was a little skeptical but now I am very excited about taking over the family business.
Coming into this class, I really didn't know what to expect. I'm not really a "how does technology work?" type of person. I really just care that it does work and is available for me to use it whenever I need to (I'm sure I'm not the only one). So far, this class has been very informative. I never knew any of this before. I now find the evolution of computers quite interesting. I didn't know they were actually as old as they are. Finding out that this all started with calculators was shocking to me. These were all things that just never crossed my mind but I'm happy that I have this opportunity to learn.
A couple things that stuck out to me in class were Aristotle's laws of logic that led into learning about Binary numbers. As Professor Drake stated, " Binary numbers allowed the rules of logic and the rules of mathematics to coincide". This was the most clear subject I have learned in class so far. I never knew that computers have not always been so convenient in size. From the pictures I learned that they used to be more than just one machine and took up a multitude of space. So, that was just a couple of things that have caught my attention so far and I'm pretty sure there will be more to come!

I didn't really know what to expect either when coming into this class. I thought that it was going to be a boring class about stuff that I wasn't going to use again. I was very happy to be proven wrong!! I also agree with the Binary numbers thing, it is crazy to me that machines could understand what it means. I suppose that's because I don't know how it really works. I think that it is amazing how computers used to take up a good size room and now we have these tiny computers that we carry around everywhere.
ReplyDeleteHey. I totally am the same way. I never really cared how computers came to be, just that they are there. And how they all came from calculators, crazy! Its amazing how much technology has changed.
ReplyDeleteYea I never really cared about the history of computers until coming into this class. The only respect I had for my computer was logging on Facebook, typing papers for class, downloading music, and uploading pictures. I didn't even think of the history behind it all. It's crazy how history could leave such a big impact. I
