Electronic Mail

While in class there was a discussion on how everything is starting to be electronic. Weather you're shopping, checking your bank statement, applying for a job, it's done electronic. But the thing that I really started to focus on was electronic mail. I remember when I was younger and I would open all of the "junk" mail, pretend it was mine, and I would tell my mother how I couldn't wait until I was old enough to receive mail. Well now that I'm old enough the only mail I'm receiving are packages from when I order something online.

Wireless companies have recently stopped sending paper bills to their subscribers, but they mail it to them electronically whether its through a text, or through a automated voice message. Cable companies such as Comcast cable and Direct Tv out a message on in the information section of your cable service which has the amount and date due. The United Postal Service has discontinues large amounts of jobs due to lack incoming mail.

I looked across a forum of individuals talking about electronic mail and many said that this new method of billing customer was convenient but it wasn't smart. What about those that didn't have Internet access? What if the connection for the Internet is down how are we going to get our mail? They had great points which made me feel that we need to have our mail sent to us through the mail.

Texting- Convenient

I found today's class very informational. we went over texting and emailing. it was a shocker when the question was asked, "how many people in this class text rather then call". Almost everyone in the class raised their hand and admitted to texting rather then calling someone.

Its amazing how phone companies are now adding texting plans to their services, to accommodate the rising growth in texting. We discussed how texting was much more convenient for busy people. you can text someone and get straight to the point and get the convo over with much faster then if you were to call someone one. You can skip the hello how are you and get to what you need or want to know.

It is crazy to think that a while back there was no such thing as texting or emails, just phone calls. Now that technology has advanced we have a lot more ways to communicate with one another. Emails are also faster then calling someone and when you email or text someone you have proof of what you said. So if someone doesn't understand or say you didn't respond you can physically show them that you indeed did. although texting is faster there are some drawbacks. people have been texting while driving and doing other things. which has led to increased accidents. which is why they put a law into effect, stating that you can not text while driving. So if you'd rather text then call someone just make sure that you don't do it while driving.
