7th blog

One of the big topics in class that we discussed was security. Security is needed in many ways online. Some of which are by firewalls, difficult passwords, and special codes that only humans can type into the correct box. Remember not to write down your passwords ever, at all, for any reason. Passwords are very important to us all for many reasons.
The other day I was at McDonald's and they had the news on one of the big flat screen TV's. I glanced at it and only reason it caught my attention was the blue F for Facebook, lol. Normally I don't watch news. So i looked it up later online, and I find out that a son is taking a nosy mother to court. She went into her sons Facebook and read his posts and didn't like that at all. So she changed the Facebook password, and the e-mail address password so he could not get back into it by any means. The mother is also accused of posting on his page herself, slander and personal facts about that son's life. The 16 year old son is filing harassment charges and the prosecutors sided with him on this case. She plans to fight the charges saying if the suit is successful it will be "open season" on all vigilant parents who seek to keep their children in line.

This is something I always worried about with my grandma or my father. Why no matter what age you are dose you family seem to think they have a right to view all your social network website pages? It's invasion of privacy, and it's harassment in my opinion. That's why only my aunt knows my password and she forgets them easily, but even then I change some of them now and then.

Anna's 9th post

I wasn't surprised to see the intense amount of security Las Vegas has in its casinos. It reminded me of the movie Ocean's 11, because that movie covers a lot of the security measures in casinos. The article "What Sin City can teach the Department of Homeland Security" went over these measures, why they're necessary and how they work. I'm not sure that using these methods would have prevented the tragedy on September 11, but they definitely would have provided helpful data about the situation.

The article poses the question, "Is it ethical for casinos to gather so much information?" I think it is ethical as long as the customers are aware. I don't think it is fair to monitor someone's phone calls during their stay at the hotel if the person doesn't know about it. I think it should become common knowledge that you consent to sharing personal information when you enter the casino. I would feel violated if I found out my license plate number, phone calls and facial features were not just recorded but being shared with other casinos.

However, if the customer is aware, then I think it is completely fine to monitor their activity. It obviously works, considering Las Vegas' crime rate is so low. The people going to casinos no perfectly well that there are cheaters there, and if you aren't breaking any rules, than why would you be worried? It is hard to say it is ethical to invade someone's privacy to this extent to improve Homeland Security. Airplanes, taxes, credit cards and drivers' licenses are American necessities, it isn't fair to monitor someone just for living, these are all unavoidable. Where as if you have a problem with being watched in casinos you can avoid it by not going to them. How do you avoid being monitored by the government? You honestly can't. I understand that it would be helpful but in this case I don't think it is worth it.

Firewall

The security and the privacy of the Internet are very important for a computer user. I memorize a protector of computer, which is called firewall. But how does it protect the Internet of computer? Firewall is generally divided into three major parts, which are application-level gateways, filtering firewall and proxy servers.

Application Level Gateway is to build the network application layer protocol filtering and forwarding capabilities. It is aimed at a specific network application service protocol which can use the specified logic of data filtering and forms the necessary analysis of the data packets, registration, statistics, and makes reports while filtering. The practical application of the gateway is usually installed on a dedicated workstation system.

Packet filtering technology is the optional network layer packets which is known as the Access Control List and are based on the logic within the system and then set up filters. It is confirmed whether to allow the packet to go through by examining the data stream in each packet's source address, destination address, used port number, and protocol or to determine their combination. Packet filtering firewall is easy to install and use, moreover, the performance of network and transparency is good, and it is usually installed in the router.

Agent Service is also known as link-level gateway or TCP channel. It is also attributable to a class of application-level gateway. It is used for data packet filtering and the introduction of firewall technology is done to overcome the shortcomings of application gateway which is characterized by all the network communication.

The role of the firewall in the network system is that it can effectively prevent the external invasion, and it can control the network information that is access to flow. It is used to deal the flow of blogs and audit, and it hides internal IP addresses and the network details of the structure.

A firewall is not only a separator or a limiter, but also a parser which can effectively monitor the internal network and ensure that the internal network is security and private.
