From the first day of class I have been dreading the "blogging experience". I am not opposed to computers, I have just never had an interest in the whole technology scene. When my laptop breaks it takes me months to have it repaired, I don't get new cell phones until I drop my current one in a pot of water, and I may be the only college student with an unopened Ipod Touch.I appreciate computers for what they can do for us. However, the fast pace at which technology advances has always seemed a bit overwhelming, and quite honestly seems like a chore to keep up with.
On top of the task of keeping up with technology, I happen to have unfortunate luck with keeping my electronic devices out of harms way. It seems everything that can go wrong does. I have been to Best Buy for repairs so many times that they not only know me by name, but also have my phone number memorized. In fact, just recently I was in the parking lot after yet another laptop repair, I couldn't find my car keys so I set my laptop on the hood of my car. Meanwhile, my tag-a-long friend was having a conversation with an angry biker about where he puts his helmet when he goes into stores. To our suprise, in repsonse to her question he barked at her. In fear she ran back toward my car so hastily she knocked the laptop off my car and onto the ground. I picked the pieces of my laptop up and we headed back into the store for one more repair.
Anyway, I digress. As many troubles as I have had with technology in the past, perhaps this class will alter my view of technology. Hopefully, by the end of the course I will have a better appreciation for technology and computers. Even now, drawing near to the end of my first blog, I've decided the requirement of blogging is not all that bad after all. It was not the daunting task I imagined. In fact it is the most fun assignment I've had thus far in the semester. Who knows where the semester will lead, but hopefully it will end successfully and broaden my mind to the world of technology.

1st Blog
This is my first blog so I figure I should introduce my self. My name is Marcus Overbeek. I'm a Junior here at the college of business and my major is marketing. I have been living in ypsi for the past three years and really enjoy it. I'm originally from Denver, CO but graduated high school from canton, MI. I really don't know much about computers or system information's. I'm taking this class because it is required, but after the first two days it seems like the class will be interesting.
The first days we learned the historical aspect of the class. i found this to be really interesting. I was surprised to find out that Microsoft was really just following in apples wake. It was amusing to find out that the first apple computer was made of wood and sold for $666. I didn't realize how much Steve Jobs had to do with the success of computers and the apple cooperation. He also was a founded of Pixar a graphic company that now is a partners with Disney.
It was interesting to see how the language of computers developed. It's kind of amazing that an entire program can be broke down to 1 and 0. I have had a little work with binary when i was in high school electronics, but to be honest i really don't remember much. I look forward to seeing how these things work and how their used. I also look forward to to finding out more about computers since i really don't know much. This class at the very least will teach me more about the computer world.

1st Blog

Hello, everyone! My name is Zhengyue Gu. You can just call me Gu. I came from Shanghai, China. This is my second at US. I'm a transfer student. Before I came here, I studied at Shanghai Normal University. I really enjoy the study and life here. It's so different from China.
Nowadays, computers play an important role in our life whether in China or US. Computers are widely used. People can't live without them. It's hard to image the 1st programmable computer Z1 was just invented 74 years ago. But the computers and internet have already made a huge change in our common life only during the 74 years. They change the way in which people communicate, do business and learn.
Also, during the 74 years, computer, itself, changes a lot too. They used to be huge. It occupied a whole big room. Compared with before, now students can bring a notbook as small as 10'' into classroom. And computers go into every famlily. The low price makes them affordable. As more and more companies join the competition, people can choose different brands, sizes, appearance and functions of it. You can even specialize one for yourself. That's so cool!
