10th blog

Something that sticks out in my mind from class still is decision making. We did one of our assignments on the topic as well.
I really enjoyed that project because, I like thinking and putting a lot of work into making sure that I make a correct choice or decision.

Currently there is a Twitter developers conference being held in San Fransisco, CA that is live to view. This can be viewed on justin.tv.
They have named this conference Twitter Chirp. Well, toward the middle of the first segment they covered they discuss decision making that they are currently doing.
They start with the fact that they believe that the open exchange of information has a positive impact on the world. These people are the same people that have created Blogger. Go figure.
Therefor the goal they have is to maximize the impact portion of that statement, and that is a big decision. Another big decision that was made by them is when they were asked if they should license the public data stream to the search guys.
Twitter is about openness and feel that it creates more value, but thought it might 'give away the farm'. Going back and forth to come to a decision Twitter went with the fact that the main goal they have is to focus on the impact portion, and then realized,
that the right thing to do was to allow searches to link up with the public data feed.

There is no one way to unleash all the value in the content, so they can get help from Yahoo, Google, and Bing. Twitter as a company has four core strategic priorities they need to maintain while making their decisions.
1) Infrastructure 2) Friction-free 3) Relevance and 4) Revenue. I absolutely agree with these priorities and think that they need to be taken into consideration while making their decisions.
The new decision they have made and are currently acting upon is; fast, easy, and obvious. A huge downfall for Twitter is that on google, it is the second thing in a list that people do not get or understand.
I will continue to listen to the developer conference on and off through out the day, because I am a Twitter freak, and I love to know all possible information.

What do I want?

I really enjoyed the last assignment that we had to do for this class. The decision making behind this project was really wonderful. I had never thought to assign a number value to the importance of a certain aspect of a decision. I liked how the assignment was set up. It was geared towards making decisions for the future. I like to plan ahead for the future and this was useful.

The first time that I did the excel part of the assignment I accidentally did the car comparison. I was really interested in doing this comparison because I know I will have to buy a new car in the future. I liked the comparisons that I had because then I actually knew what each brand offered in a similar model. The areas were cost, mpg highway, exterior, interior, and safety. It is interesting see the hard numbers based on what was more important to me overall.

When I had realized i did the project incorrectly I chose to look at houses for the future. Since I don't know where I am going in life, I did a variety of states. I knew I wanted a specific type of house so it wasn't that hard. Not only was this assignment great for the knowledge of this type of decision making but for the resources needed for these decisions. I liked that I had to look up different cars and houses online. It gave me an expanded knowledge of these areas and what types of keywords to use.
