health care integrating information systems

On Tuesday in class we talked about how information systems is just starting to adopt of using database systems. I did talk to some people that work at my job which is a health care facility, and they said that hospitals in the state of Michigan just adopted information systems. That is only with hospitals, but with home care facilities they still are using paper forms to do all their work. After working at Maple Manor Assisted Living and Rehabilitation Center facility I realize that they do not have the business background that would be needed to help run the company smoother. Not that there is anything wrong with the company, but there is always improvement to be more efficient.
It does make a lot of sense for health care facilities to adopt to IS because doctors do not have a lot of time to learn a new system especially after using a system that has been used for decades. There are companies that are trying to advertise products that can be used in the health care industry that can help make things easier to use and faster. GE has a product that they are selling that will help health care companies run more efficient.
I think this a great way to help promote more IT jobs in the state of Michigan because there is a large demand for nurses, and more people are going to health care facilities now than before. The baby boomer are going to be retiring soon, and as these people get older there will be a need for more improvement in IS in these facilities. I have seen how unorganized these rooms full of medical charts. The company I work for has five rooms full of medical charts, and they keep getting more and more patients.

  1. IS is an important tool no matter what your profession is. You're definitely right that it needs to be integrated. I am surprised nothing has stood firm in the industry yet. Hopefully GM does a good job a helping them develop something.

  2. I think information system is used for normal operation of hospitals, but the doctors and the nurses just often use it for input or output the information in their most time and treat their computers as database, so this field which a hospital and an expert are involved with is different.

  3. When it comes to hospitals and health care facilities, I think information systems is crucial. They need something that is going to be fast and efficient for them because of the fact that doctors and nurses don't have a very big background with computer systems and such. They need something that is going to work for them easily and comprehendable.

  4. IS in health care is important now more than ever. With the new universal health care bill, there will be a huge increase in health care patients. Health care facilities need the fastest way of doing things as possible.
