Future Trends

Understanding the history of Information Systems (IS) is intrinsic to a better-developed perspective on the future of technology. Technology grows exponentially and there are some startling statistics that have great impact on our lives. One well-known futurist goes by the name of Ray Kurzweil. Kurzweil has a solid background as a future scientist, and was also the one who developed the first device that will read words off of a page out loud. Kurzweil predicts that we will see roughly 32x the amount of change in Generation X's lifetime as opposed to the baby boomers. A topic of great interest to the field of future science is singularity, which is quite interesting and a result of exponential technological growth. The way technology has proliferated is a very substantial part of predicting its future.

Generation X's workplace will be radically different as opposed to those of the baby boomers. This is mainly because the world is shrinking as technology advances. Companies now may source workers from all over the globe, which will create far more diverse workplaces. Companies who do not adapt quickly enough to this trend will fall out of competition. It's either sink or swim.

A core component of staying contemporary with the working world is IS. IS is becoming increasingly more and more important and already functions as a nexus of most of our communication. Keeping up allows us to adapt more comfortably to future developments. The world will be far, far different just 10 years from now.

Also, does anyone know how to properly upload an image from a URL? I tried to get a very cool graph that shows the exponential trend of evolution, but it didn't show up...

  1. When you are writing your post in the text box there is a toolbar at the top. There is a tool that looks like a picture and if clicked on it allows you to add a picture. Another screen will pop up when you click on it and show two ways to add a picture: by browsing your computer and by putting in an URL. I am unsure if the picture will actually show up once you put in the URL or if it will just have the link. I hope this helps!!

  2. Or you could probably just save the image on your computer and then upload it through the browse option.
