Blog #1 by Desiree Luker

I looked over a couple of the other blogs so I guess I will follow along with what they have started. First off my name is Desiree Luker and I am currently a freshmen at Eastern. I am majoring in entrepreneurship so because this major is in the college of business that is why I am taking this class. I am not the absolute best with computers so I am ready for this class to be a bit tough for me.
Now to talk about computers. Personally I thought that it was very interesting that the whole idea of computers and basically the whole reason that they were invented is because of math. When you think about it a lot of things are invented for one reason, then become used for another. I think that it is wonderful how far we have come with computers and the internet. If you just think about how different our lives today would be if we didn't have computers it is amazing.
One day I went to a store and their computer and register wasn't working so they had to do everything by hand. It took the store so long to do simple things like math. If they never had computers at all if wouldn't be so bad because they would be used to doing things the longer way, but operating their store would not be as efficient as it is today. And whether we know it or not computers have change all of our lives in many ways, some may not be as obvious as others but they have. If you take out any part of history not matter what it is it will forever change the rest of the world. I think that computers are a very good and useful tool and they are so many things that rely on them to function.

  1. I totally agree with this. You have some great points. When you mention the cash register being out at the store. Now what if there wasn't any computers at all, just think of how much more you would have to go through in order to be qualified for a position as a "cashier". That would be so crazy. I think math would be the most popular subject.

  2. I once worked for a small auto parts store that used the old cash registers, and it was very difficult to make transactions. We had to either use a calculator to make change, or more often than not just do the math in our heads! The use of technology is much preferable to those antiquated methods!

  3. I work at Chase and before I worked at TCF Bank. The operating systems are totally different, and actually Chases system is much easier to use then TCF's seeing as how mostly everything was manual. Our systems went down at tcf one day and we had to handle transactions by hand and at the end of the day take our starting total or our drawer at the begging of the day and and subtract all the tranactions by hand and then balance the drawer after...major pain and im glad I dont have to do that again.
