Last week in class, we talked about different operating systems, particularly the windows series. First off, the Microsoft Windows was invented in the 1980s, with Windows 1.0. This started off with the basics like a calculator, calendar, and a couple other different programs. Another thing that was really different about this series, was the way it was set up. The tool bar and the start box didn't come along until later. After the Windows 1.0, came the Windows 2.0 followed by the Windows 2.1. These early types of Windows were very important to how we got to where we are today.
Windows 3.0 and 3.1 came next. These still early versions of Windows were basically the same, with improvements that made them better. Mostly, that had to do with the memory. Next, Windows 95 and 98 came out. This is when we got what we know and love from the Windows series. Windows 95 and 98 really put the push out there to increase computer production and make them as good as they can. It really is amazing to look back at Windows 95 and remember using it. It seems like so long ago, when in fact it really was a little over ten years.
Finally, Microsoft came out with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. On my laptop now, I have Windows Vista, which, when I bought it, was the best there was, and that wasn't that long ago. It is amazing that in just a short few years, something new can come along very quickly and replace what is now considered "old." Windows Vista and Windows 7 are both really big launching points into the future of operating systems. Just think, in a couple years, they are already set to come out with Windows 8. When it comes to operating systems, things change very quickly.
I also enjoyed the lecture on the progression of Windows. It has definately been the largest source of innovation and advancement in the computer industry over the last 25 years. I personally enjoyed the video that we watched in class because it showed what all of the different systems looked like, and how they functioned. Lastly I to am sometimes amazed when I think back of using the old windows 3.0, 95, and 98 systems. the progresion to my current windows vista system is remarkable.
ReplyDeletei enjoy this lecture it was very interesting. A little confusing, but reading gave me more understanding.
ReplyDeleteWindows has grown rapidly, and I have to admit that it is a little annoying. Yes, it is great that they are always trying to improve it and make things easier and better. However, when I have spent so much money on a computer, it is frustrating that only a few years go by and suddenly my computer is not compatible with what everyone else is using. I cannot view documents that professors or other classmates send me, and have to constantly tell people to save it in the 2003 version so I can open it. Also, it is hard to learn a new version every few years. For someone who is not very tech-oriented, it makes it really difficult. I still have not learned how to use Windows 7 because that is not what I have on my computer. When it gets time for me to buy a new computer, how long will it take before that doesn't work anymore? Is it necessary to change versions so quickly?
ReplyDeleteI am currently using 2000, and I am getting the END NOW routine. I will be purchasing a new computer soon. I dread the thought of the learning curve to a new computer. Many new features since my last purchase.
ReplyDeleteI hated learning Vista then the nest thing I new they had Windows 7 out! I still have Vista but want 7 just because it is supposed to be easier to operate. I think we all get used to one version and are reluctant to change, but then we have to purchase a new computer at some point and then we have to relearn the operating system.
ReplyDeleteI currently have vista and really don't like it very much. I noticed that this version tends to run a lot slower. Vista also tends to frezze a lot when i get to many things running. I was much happier with my windows xp. I never had a problem with freezing or slow processing. From what i hear the new windows is really niceand has good processing power. I wish windows would upgrade me to that since vista sucks so much.
