What is integration? It is the process where smaller pieces of software are brought together to form a larger piece of software for a specific purpose. Basically meaning that a smaller more efficient software can replace another just for a specific purpose. There are advantages to this process. Things such as a faster design and the development. Also it gives you a better performance with less redundancy. They also have used this process for many successful businesses because of their web services.
The EAI combines the function of the businesses together with each other. It reduces the cost and benefits in amount of productivity. But there are some dangers to this as well. Some of those could be that the software does not live up to their means. Saying that the product/service sometimes doesnt do what it is programmed to do. It also has malfunctions that cost money to fix or update.
The purpose of this is to ensure in multiple systems and to keep them constant. The vendor experience extracts the business policies or rules from the applications and transporting them into the EAI system. So if one of the applications are replaced with a different vendors app. the business rules do not have to be re- implemented. An EAI system can front-end a cluster of applications to provide a single consistent access interface to these applications and to shield users from having to learn how to interact with the different software packages.
I like this blog post a lot. One question what does EAI stand for again
ReplyDeleteI understand the benefits of integration and having different programs make up a larger software, but sometimes its a bit frustrating. I know we have discussed how vital updates are to computer programs and how wonderful they are in maintaining the quality of the software, but sometimes they drive me nuts. I feel like my computer asks me to update software every five minutes and then forces me to restart. Enough already!
ReplyDeleteIntegration is great until I had to change software to Micorsoft Vista from XP! Update your software and youll see nothing but improvements is what I was told....all Ive seen is me screaming at my computer and multiple attempts to break it. Its true integration is meant to be beneficial but I feel like updates and software changes are reoccurring too often; by the time I am used to working with one system, it is updated to something I know nothing about. I feel like if we took a step back and let people learn technology but also learn how to live without it, we may be a more functional and productive society.
ReplyDeleteI think integration is a good idea and has a good 'concept' behind it. It does seem to cause alot of problems however. People aren't always willing to deal with updating new software and it can become very frustrating for people because I know what they are talking about. We always get those little pop ups in the corner to update our software and it can become quite annoying. I think if it self updated rather than even asking us would be better for us as users.
