There is so much we can do with this type of interaction. Many of us use facebook, twitter, and other social networking sites everyday. If we really want to get technical, all we do is sit around and pass messages to one another through a computer. It's kind of lazy, but to us, it is entertaining- or at least it makes the time go by. Older adults will say we are wasting our time but I don't see how.
By sitting down at a computer, we can do our homework, chat with our friends, check emails, pay bills and even do some online shopping. All of this will take no less than 2-3 hours depending on what we have to do. On the other hand, if we weren't using the computer and we had to do every last one of the previously listed activities, it will take us alot longer because we have to get our cars and drive all over the place.
Human computer interaction is getting more and more advanced as the years go by. I hope I'm around long enough to see my kids have college courses in a room filled with nothing but chairs, tables, and one large computer. Sorry professors, this may mean a cutback in your profession.
I couldn't imagine going to school without technology aided interaction! Doing assignments for classes would take forever, as you would have to take your time to make sure your handwriting is legible and finding information would also take more time, like you said, as you would have to physically go places to find it. I'm happy that I am going to school now when this type of technology interaction is available, but I can't help wonder what it was like before it? Was less homework assigned because it took longer to do? I guess, in the long run, I wonder whether or not we actually are better off now or not? What are your thoughts?
ReplyDeleteThis interaction interests me the most as well. Human-computer interaction is truly incredible to think about. To think that one day computers will simply respond to our voice and body gestures...remarkable. When I think of human-computer interaction I think about that video the professor showed us a few weeks ago when the guy walked into his apartment and simply started vocally communicating with his computer and television systems. Technology knows no bounds and will continue to develop and improve; as it continues to develop people's reliance on technology will also grow and develop.
ReplyDeleteto actually think that a computer can know me and my personality, talk to me, have the same features like a human has is something really scary and pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteI see people that talk about how technology is taking over and how we have become too dependent on such tech. This technology is really impressive and is a good way of showing what we can do, but do you really have to have your house become your computer? I will admit that this would be cool and a lot of fun to try out. the only thing is where do you call it quits. I quess that will be up to the consumer.
ReplyDeleteThat is what i have been worrying about. I don't think that i would feel comfortable living in a house that knew everything about what was going on. It's like that movie that disney made a couple years ago, Smart House. The house took over because it was upset.
