Nintendo Wii

In class this week we discussed ubiquitous computing, this involves sensing. With sensing you can control things with touch and gestures. With video games you had to sense that they would have a more interactive game system, that would allow you control the movement of your character and favorite sports stars.
With the Nintendo Wii you have full control over what you are doing with what game you are playing, in the way that you use the controller to make gestures that control the character on the screen.
For an example of a gesture that you use would be, lets say you were playing bowling to play bowling you have to actually make the bowling gesture to throw the ball and the gaming system will take the gesture that you make and turn it into an actual throw on the lanes of the Wii.
I remember back in the day when Sega genesis came out and it was such a big accomplishment to have a gaming system that had 16 bits, we all were very excited about this. These days you have gaming systems such as the Nintendo Wii that doesn't have great graphics but controlling it yourself really makes playing a game real, other new systems such as PlayStation 3 have great graphics and when your playing sports games it really like you are controlling the real person, and this is really amazing to me how real it actually looks.

  1. I love the Nintendo Wii. I honestly think it is in a class of it's own as far as game systems go. To be loved by all ages, genders, and classes is a great goal for a game system. I bought my mom a Wii Fit for Christmas and she loved it. My brother was excited too because he is a big video gamer so he's benefiting off of her gift. It's user friendly interface, and great quality make the Wii rise above the competition.

  2. If I'm not mistaken, the Wii was the first of its kind. Also, the sony has developed their own ubiquitous computing. Gaming is getting better as the years go by also.

  3. When I first saw the Wii i didn't get it at all. I didn't understand how just you moving the controller would make anything happen. My boyfriend has the wii and I think that they have come so far with everything that you can do on it. You can drive cars and work out with a video game. i Believe that the wii is just an example of how far things have come.

  4. I like the way that I can play games by using my gesture, it is funny. I think I just need to face a screen, but it also can reach the same effect which looks like I am playing an real games.

  5. I think its real sweet how we can play video games that interact with our movements. Just by what we do with a controller, it knows exactly what we want it to do and thats pretty awesome. I have played Wii before and I like it alot. However, on a down side, I have heard that alot of nice, big, flat screen TV's have been broke because of the Wii. People accidentally let the controller slip or something and it smashes into the TV. I believe theres a website that shows pictures of smashed TVs from the Wii but im not exactly sure what the website is called.

  6. when I first played the WII, the only game i liked was boxing. seriously I played for about 2 hours, and I was sweating like I have ran for 5 miles. the only thing I didn't like about the Wii that it's too slow. I find its controller not user friendly and sometimes it's alittle frustrating for me to use. I think they should redesign the remote control and put faster software in the Wii, and maybe ill think about buying it.

  7. The Wii is definately a class of its own at the moment. I also know that other systems coming out will try to advance on the gameplay experience that the Wii provides. I know that Microsoft is attempting to develop a new interactive gaming system, and would have to guess that Sony is not far behind. I personally do not use the Wii system much, as I perfer to play sports in person, rather than on a screen.

  8. My roommate just got a Wii this past winter. It's a fun way to interact with the game you play. I mean who hasn't always wanted to actually through the punch in a fighting game. It isn't a interactive as i thought it would be, but considering how new this technology is I think that it's a good start. who knows what the future will hold.
