Intel's new processor

Processors are, what I believe to be, the most important component in a computer. The processor is the primary controller for all of a computers functions. When choosing a computer in today's market, people have to decide between a wide range of multi-core processors. These are processor's that have the power of multiple processors on one chip. The usual options when buying a computer is a single core, dual core, or quad core. Intel has created a chip that has 48 cores and it is designed for PCs.

The 48-core processor is not set to be released anytime soon but Intel has shipped out computers with the 48-core processor to selective institutions. This new processor is part of a research project and some of its features will be used in future processors. The 48-core processor look to make improvements on that cut memory and communication bottlenecks that affect current x86 chips. Also, the processor has 24 routers that are each placed between cores which increases data exchange.

This chip shows a glimpse into the processing future. Moore's Law has been theoretically correct throughout the years but I think it is a matter of time when processor speeds will be boosted at a much faster rate. With the enormous demands society has for technology, I am eager to work with a computer that has a processor with 48-cores.

  1. This is extremely interesting. I currently have a quad-core processor in my desktop and I thought that was fast. It's crazy to see the giant leap Intel has taken going from four cores to 48! Talk about increasing consumer demand!!
