Health Care Reform

On March 21st , 2010 both sides of the Congress approved on the Health Care Reform Bill. But there will be changes to some things in the long run. For example in the year 2014 individuals who can't maintain a minimal amount of health insurance coverage for their self and/ or their dependents will have a additional excise tax. Those who don't know what that means a excise tax could be a tax on a consumption on a certain good either made here or imported from a different country. But the tax can't exceed around 300% per penalty. Then in 2018 another 40% excise tax will be put on the cost of each employee's health coverage. There can be no prohibition on the insurers passing the tax on the customers. It seems that throughout time this health care reform isn't such a great idea because more and more money will be spent from our tax dollars.

There will also be an increase in medicare payroll tax. Wages will increase 0.9% in the excess of $200,000. This will become in affect sometime in December of 2012. This could be a good way to help employees out during a economic recession such as what we are going through now days. Things are starting to pick up a little but not how they are suppose too. There are still millions of people out of jobs. As A country we need to do something better and more efficient. I would say that the Health care reform can be a start.

New taxes will be added to the bill as well. It's far from perfect but its something to work on during the years of rebuilding our nation as one. By doing this the government has documented that by passing this bill the life expectancy for our country could increase up to five years. This brings out greater looks to the country. People in other countries will begin to think it is a better chance of being there than here.

  1. It's amazing that a healthcare bill was finally passed. They have been trying to do this for over 100 years. On the other hand, this only puts our country in more debt. How will this be a positive for out country besides healthier people.

  2. I think we need to wait to see if the health care bill will be a sucess or not. There is still not enough known about how it will work and what effect it will have. It is needed but it may have been done in a more stable economy with better results.

  3. Personally, I think that this was a horrible idea. I mean, yes, it wouldn't have been passed if they didnt see good coming from it. There are many problems with this and in the end, it's putting us in more debt and adding on more tax to those individuals who can't afford to pay for health care. I think it should be up to the individual whether or not they want to pay for health care, not a requirement by the government. To do this at this time in our current situation, I just don't see this having any good. Bad move by the president and government.
